Album Review

A former member of Canada's Bass Is Base, Chin Injeti starts his solo debut with a fine and funky vibe on the soulful "Magic," which eerily resembles Prince in his early days. The mix of soul, R&B, hip-hop, drum'n'bass, and general old-fashioned Motown funk is the album's strong point, especially on the title track, which has some lush backing vocals. Using some added textures such as turntable scratches and keyboards creates a current sound while at the same time evoking images of a late-'70s discotheque. "Rejoice" has a gospel aura about it, but the chorus doesn't live up to the infectious verses and bridge. "Give" has a slow melodic groove in the vein of Lenny Kravitz. Although there are 14 tracks, like most hip-hop or funk albums, a few of the tracks such as "Sol G" act as a brief buffer for subsequent songs. The rap of "Give Away Your Soul" seems out of place in the tracks, despite the fact it features Moka Only. As forgettable as "Show Me Love" sounds, one intriguing track is a cover of Supertramp and its "Logical Song," which resembles Michael Jackson in his Off the Wall age. A very well-rounded effort from a well-rounded professional.

Next Big Thing

This guy is huge in Vancouver, Toronto and L.A.... I got a chance to meet up with Chin a while back and his music is so inspirational that it can be intimidating watching this guy do his thing. Dont bother checking out a few tracks. Get the Album. Follow up. Peace.
