iTunes Editors' Notes

Australian musician Kevin Parker is a bit of a savant; Tame Impala's psychedelic trip-pop is due pretty much to his writing, playing, and production (though T.I. tours as a full band). Parker sidekick and collaborator Jay Watson shares songwriting credits this time around, notably on two stellar tracks: "Elephant," an impossibly delectable blend of Sabbath stomp and Syd Barrett trippiness, and "Apocalypse Dreams," a gorgeous, chameleonic tune that reflects Parker's noted influence, Todd Rundgren. (A Rundgren remix of "Elephant" is available on iTunes.) And though it's nearly impossible to listen to "Be Above It" or "Mind Mischief" without hearing a mash of Revolver- and Sgt. Pepper's–era Beatles in the songs' DNA, Lonerism is loaded with more synthesizers and ambient sounds than guitars. It's definitely a more pop-oriented album than the crunchy Innerspeaker, revealing another compelling side to Tame Impala. (Check out Watson's other band Pond and its LP Beard, Wives, Denim for more satisfying psych-rock.)

You Won't Be Disappointed

Loving 'Apocalypse Dreams', 'Mind Mischief', 'Elephant' and 'Led Zeppelin'! Worth every penny!

Tame impala lonerism.

Wow, this album is unique contemporary retro. I like this better than their last album, and i thought that was groundbreaking.

Mind blowing!

Sometimes it's like The Beatles and Black Keys mixed with a little MGMT, and then it's just good ol' Tame Impala. This right here is quality music!

Biography

Formed: 2007 in Perth, Australia

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Kevin Parker (vocals/guitar) and Dominic Simper (bass) formed Tame Impala as 13 year olds in Perth in 1999, sticking to bedroom recordings until 2007, when Jay Watson joined them on drums and backing vocals. Their sound was pure late '60s, but wasn't the sound of any specific band from the era. They were as likely to be channeling the Nazz as the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Cocooned away inside walls of psychedelic fuzz in Western Australia, they re-created their preferred period one song at a time...
