Editors’ Notes

With a discography that’s defined modern R&B as we know it, Usher has transcended the urban genre that spawned him, sculpting his own brand of “revolutionary pop.” Sprinkled amongst the electronic dance tracks that predominate Looking 4 Myself are cuts with surprisingly organic drums and retro references like the Pharrell collaboration “Twisted” and the introspective “Sons of My Father.” Diplo appears on the new single “Climax.” Proto-’80s sequenced synthesizer lines and a disciplined rhythm track commence to a set assured falsetto vocals. “Scream” reverberates with club ready synths and infectious hooks, making it the logical sequel to “OMG,” the monster hit from 2010.
