Album Review

Released on what would have been the legendary Queen frontman's 60th birthday, EMI's Lover of Life, Singer of Songs collects 20 digitally remastered tracks from the late vocalist's eccentric solo career, including pre-Queen singles, soundtrack offerings, and cuts from his two official solo releases (1985's Mr. Bad Guy and 1988's Barcelona). This is good news for fans who were unwilling to dip into their savings to pick up Parlophone' s mammoth ten-disc Solo Collection, as it utilizes the majority of that collection's strengths. For the most part, this is all anyone could want from a non-Queen Mercury overview, and despite the inclusion of a few too many posthumous remixes, serves as moving eulogy to one of popular music's most beloved voices. [Lover of Life, Singer of Songs also comes in a two-disc edition, as well as a CD/DVD package.]

Freddie still rocks!

When I first listened to this CD, I nearly cried. Freddie's mortality rang out of every line of most of the songs (much like "Made in Heaven"). I joined the Queen fan club back in the dark ages of the 70's, but even in my dotage, I still need a Freddie-jolt on a frequent basis. This CD sums up the last years of Freddie's life succinctly; his love of music, and his desire and need to keep recording, never diminished. The best song in my opinion is The Golden Boy. His duets with Ms Monserrat are outstanding, but this one is fantastic, blending opera and gospel with some typical old Queen harmonies wins hands down across the board.

Freddy's solo?

I have always been a HUGE Queen fan I own all their albums and own over 200 on my ipod in total, but I never knew freddie had a solo career until I was surfing iTunes and founds this incredible albums! I listened to some of the previews and as customary with freddy's magical voice I fell in love instantle and purchased it! Afterwards i couldn't have been happier! The songs cut right through you and make you look at things completely differnetly! Your life isn't complete until you have listened to this album atleast once! Way to go Freddie! P.S. R.I.P

wow!

Freddie Mercury was born to sing! He just brings a smile to my face when I hear his music!

Combining theatrics and an outrageously flamboyant stage persona with his fine natural-born talent (he possessed one of the greatest voices in all of music and penned some of pop's most enduring and instantly recognizable compositions), one of rock's greatest all-time entertainers/showmen was unquestionably Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury. Born Farrokh Bulsara on September 5, 1946, in Zanzibar to Persian parents (his father worked as a high court cashier for the British government), young Farrokh...
