Men of Standard’s debut packs all the group’s alchemy that fans love—smooth R&B harmonies that frequently erupt into sanctified hollers and soulful gospel belting. The production is slick but also spare, leaving plenty of room for the singers to work their magic. The songs themselves are steeped in faith and adoration—whether in the perseverance anthem “Pressing On” or the commitment to obedience in “Yeah, Yeah.” Elsewhere, they testify to the power of the Spirit working through “An Anointed Song”—something this album exhibits over and over.

The contemporary gospel quartet Men of Standard comprised vocalists Michael Bacon, Isaac Carree, Bryan Pierce and Lowell Pye. The group was originally formed by Carree and Pye, both veterans of John P. Kee's New Life Community Choir, in tandem with Pierce, a former Youth Pastor at New Orleans' Greater St. Stephens church; after a handful of roster changes, the line-up truly gelled with the addition of Bacon, a noted producer in his native Dallas.
