Meadow

Like the restless men in his songs, Richard Buckner rarely stays in the same place when it comes to the settings for his impressionistic lyrics and weathered baritone. His eighth album marks a shift away from his forlorn brand of folk and country to a moody, driving rock sound. The muscular opener “Town” is one of many songs that benefit from the heft provided by such guest players as Doug Gillard of Guided by Voices but still boast the subtler virtues of Buckner’s work.
