iTunes Review

The Pixies’ second album really shows us what they’re capable of. “Debaser” roars out the gate like an impatient bull. “Wave of Mutilation” sneaks a catchy melody past Kim Deal’s snarling bass and the swirling mass of electric guitars. Pop hooks move upfront for the Merseybeat-gone-mad “Here Comes Your Man.” And Black Francis and Kim Deal combine their unusual voices to create joy and tension on “Monkey Gone to Heaven.” Throughout Doolittle, the band's ambition is relentless.

Wave of Sweetness

A great album, especially if you're a fan of the Pixie sound. Doolittle is an awesome mix of heavy guitar and laid back grooves. If you're into Alternative rock this album is for you.

A Masterpiece

Doolittle was the PIxies second studio album, but their was definitely no sophomore slump here; it was by far their best. Doolittle is an amazing album. From start to finish, it mixes jagged guitars with catchy pop hooks and delightfully strange lyrics. Black Francis' soft, violent, and spoken word vocals are wonderful, especially when mixed with the soothing sound of bassist Kim Deal's little singing parts. I can't even begin to describe how much I love this album, so I'm not really going to try. All I can say is that Doolittle is a must - have for any alt rock lover. Combining jagged, roaring guitars and stop-start dynamics with melodic pop hooks, intertwining male-female harmonies, and evocative, cryptic lyrics, the Pixies were one of the most influential American alternative rock bands of the late '80s. They weren't accomplished musicians -- Black Francis wailed and bashed out chords while Joey Santiago's lead guitar squealed out spirals of noise. But the bandmembers were inventive, rabid rock fans who turned conventions inside out, melding punk and indie guitar...
