EDITORS’ NOTES

Ideas come bursting from every corner of Malajube's breakthrough second album. The effusive Quebec rock act sounds like a turbocharged Tilt-A-Whirl, dazzling with washes of raw guitar riffs, garage-rock chants, and soft-sung harmonies, hinting at heavy metal before shifting into a heavenly melody and then taking off in search of more kicks. Malajube's pop smarts are second to none, driving this thrilling album without ever degrading it. Trompe l'-oeil is infused with the giddiness of a highly proficient rock band pushing boundaries and having a blast.
