Album Review

Quiet, calming selection of sacred hymns sung by a man with a Broadway-scale baritone/bass voice. Dyer was previously heard debuting the voice of Jesus in Lex de Azevedo's Hosanna: The Life of Christ, Pt. III, as well as his own solo freshman effort, Wondrous Love. With a talent that is comparable to David Barrus, but a bit more classical in sound, Dyer pulls out the stops for this soothing sophomore effort. Harpist Lysa Rytting provides the mesmerizing harp heard in the fourth track "Father in Heaven (Ave Maria)." She's just one of the many talented people associated with this project, and whose names seem to regularly appear on the best albums to come out of the Salt Lake Valley. There's much to enjoy about this album, with only one minor complaint: One needs to turn the volume up a bit higher than other albums in the same stereo system in order to get the full sound experience, leading to the unpleasant shock of having subsequent albums nearly blasting the listener's house apart. Not exactly a nice way to follow up on the serenity created by this otherwise praiseworthy album. ~ Dacia A. Blodgett-Williams, Rovi
