Editors’ Notes

It's hard to believe it's been almost 20 years since Monica hit the scene with her debut album, Miss Thang, after being discovered by Dallas Austin. Since then, she's released several successful albums, had some huge singles (such as "The Boy Is Mine" and "Still Standing"), won a GRAMMY® Award, and starred in TV shows and movies. New Life is her seventh full-length, which finds her working with super-producers like Polow da Don, Saleem Remi, Jermaine Dupri, Missy Elliott, and Bryan-Michael Cox, among others. Her strong vocal talents still shine bright, while most of the songs here focus on either true love ("Amazing," "Without You," "Take a Chance") or the struggle with breakup and betrayal ("It All Belongs to Me," "Big Mistake," "Time to Move On"). It's a solid album from one of this generation's most popular R&B superstars, with strong features from Wale and Brandy. Don't miss the soulful "Cry" or the reggae-tinged "Man Who Has Everything."

Customer Reviews

Great!

Fantastic job Monica. It has been awhile since you have released an album.

Time

Time is of the essence and now is certainly a great time to release your album. A new year, a new season and a new life! Great job! I've grown with you and look forward to many more years listening to your music in my womanhood. Much love!

Monica Keepin' R&B HERE

After listening to this album, the great thing about it is that Monica is keeping R&B here, a concentrated effort at contemporary R&B with sounds harkening to the golden era of R&B, the 90's when Monica made her debut. This album is slickly produced and crafted, definitely an ear pleaser from start to finish. Dripping the sensual sounds of R&B, this album is syrupy goodness all the way around, any fan of Monica's would joy, and any fan of R&B with a yearning for the great sound of decades past but remaining relevant and modern will love this album. Monica has her vocals on point, although Still Standing was a great album, and her comeback according to the industry after her hiatus, New Life marks a comeback to her R&B sound of the 90's. This record will have you sing along and keep you feeling reminiscent of Monica's past songs. A great album from start to finish, solid and enjoyable.
