Album Review

As the title might suggest, this grunge-metal effort is suitably gloomy and visceral, both in the growling vocal delivery of lead singer Scooter and the band's triple guitar assault. While it's nothing remarkable, there are enough decent hooks to tunes like "End of the World" and "Just Got Wicked" to make the album appealing to even the downright optimistic.

13 ways indeed

I can remember back to the first time that this album was placed in my CD player, I had not heard anything like this band, nor have I heard anything like it, except for the spinoff group Allele, which features ex-Cold guitarist Kelly Hayes. While this album may now have had radio hits, or music videos that were played constantly on MTV, it has something that most bands on MTV don't: an album that can be listened to from start to finish without needing to use the skip button. There are songs that make you wanna bang your head, such as 'Just Got Wicked', 'Send in the Clowns', and 'Outerspace'. Then there are songs like 'Confession', 'It's All Good' and 'Sick of Man' that can bring you to your knees. Not one song on this album is unreachable by the average person, and can be related to in many ways. The most interesting parts of this album have got to be some of the samples that are used, such as in 'Anti-Love Song', when the crowd screaming and synth drums tracks bring out the best of the song. There are guest appearances by the ever popular Staind singer, Aaron Lewis that are brilliant, and the beautiful Sierra Swan will give you the shivers on 'No One' (Popular around the MTV crowd thanks to A Walk To Remember) and 'Witch'. If your a fan of Spineshank, Korn, or even AFI, check this album out.

Jacksonville, Florida-based alternative metal outfit Cold started out by sharing the aesthetic of another Florida band, Limp Bizkit. Both groups favored technically complex, bleak, and brutal metal that merged elements of Jane's Addiction, Metallica, and Tool. The Bizkit actually discovered Cold playing in the Jacksonville area and helped them sign to the A&M subsidiary Flip. Cold's eponymous debut album was released in the summer of 1998, and through constant touring, the combo earned a devoted...
