I love it. <3
This is best version of JCS that I've found on iTunes, and probably the best one that I've ever heard. The sound is so fresh, without straying to far from the original intentions of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber. HIGHLIGHTS: 1.Drew Sarich as Jesus Christ. The man has an amazing voice -- you can hear the emotion, pain and happiness. His talent is appartant in 'The Temple' and 'The Last Supper', especially. 2.The intensity of Serkan Kaya as Judas during 'Judas' Death'. Chills. 3.The overall vocal talent of the entire cast. Not a bad voice in the bunch. 4.The new verse 'Trial Before Pilate', sang by the chorus. LOWLIGHTS: 1.Serkan Kaya flubbing up lines on such tracks as 'Strange Thing Mystifying' and 'The Last Supper' (on Strange he wonders why Jesus allows Mary Magdelene to 'stroke you and kiss your hair.', when the words stroke and kiss should be in a different order ; on Supper he calls Jesus a 'jaded animal' instead of a 'jaded mandarin'. 2.The random speaking bit in Trial Before Pilate that is in a different language. Also in this song, a few verses were left out. Overall, this is a great musical, a wonderful telling of the last seven days of Jesus' life. It humanises even the most hated characters (the betrayer, Judas -- 'Heaven on their Minds' shows the reasoning behind his decesions and 'Judas' Death' Shows remorse). Buy it, mmkay. :)
Fitting, that Drew Sarich should Play God
I've been a fan of this musical for several years now, and this version of it has only made me obsessed with it all over again. The Jesus (Drew Sarich) ) in this production is simply amazing, with the most gorgeous, passionate voice-- and Judas (Serkan Kaya) ain't too bad either! Actually, all the actors are brilliant, and brought this classic to life in a whole new way. The only thing that I didn't particularly enjoy was the fact that Herod is played by a woman, which was just confusing... But no matter. Take a listen, you won't regret it!
Surprisingly Holds Its Own with the Original
Got this on the advice of the stellar reviews above. Fans of the original Broadway recording or the movie soundtrack will find this rendition an interesting, at times exhilarating experience. The orchestration is simply incredible; there are several instances where I found myself smiling at the interpretation. "Trial Before Pilate" is exceptional. And I must reiterate that Drew Sarich really "nails" Jesus. *sigh...sorry...* My only issue is Judas. Judas Iscariot is arguably the most demanding role in this rock opera and sorry to say, Kara's not up to it. Besides the flubbed lines noted, he sings most of his songs through clenched teeth, doubtless to convey the tortured character. It just sounds pained. But overall, great work, and I'm glad I bought this.
