Album Review

An overlooked session with Pat Metheny (g) in definite jazz phase. Herbie Hancock shows his steadfast piano form.

Parallel Realities

Bright and skillfully played jazz/fusion album featuring Jack DeJohnette on drums, Herbie Hancock on keyboards, and Pat Matheny on guitar. Wonderful moments of improvisation and abandonment to the featured solo instrumentations, while maintaining a tight melody throughout each song. Ethereal and mellow enough for background music, or can be appreciated as a jazz album in which any of these songs could be played live. There is a great energy to this album and when each featured artist showcases their individual talents you are amazed at their skill and ability, while never detracting from the unit as a whole.
Have loved this album since 1990 when I first heard it, and will continue to appreciate it into the future. The timelessness and inability to 'date' this music is a testament to the innovation of these players.
