Album Review

Ray Lynch's synthesizer playing sometimes approximates keyboard instruments and sometimes sounds like individually plucked strings on electrified string instruments, but always has a deeply textured melodic structure and a buoyant rhythmic underpinning. Isolated notes in series and patterns make a pointillistic mosaic of sound that alternately soothes and stimulates. No wonder this is one of the best-selling new-age albums of all time.

worth it

Dunno why the release date says 2001 because I first bought this on cassette tape in 1989. Regardless, I've always appreciated this album because it is entirely unique in my music collection and allows me something totally different when I need it. Beautiful soundscape, nice to drive to if you're travelling during sunrise.

Loving Deep Breakfast

I am delighted to find this album. I first purchased the cassette back in the late 1980's and listened to it every day! The cassette is long lost and I've often wondered if I would ever find it again. Now, this morning I will surprise my husband with this lovely "breakfast" music (we take the title literally and listen in the mornings) while I steam up a cup of coffee. Life couldn't be better! This is just a lovely mix of eclectic, but cheerful music. Best played quietly while musing on the day. Enjoy!

I have an extensive new age library of which Ray Lynches No Blue Thing as well as Deep Breakfast are jewels i keep reaching for time and time again. Love the fresh crisp sound on these CDs.Soda Pop and Falling in the Garden are one of our favorites. Play it late at night and enjoy the soothing and fun qualities.

Though he's one of the most influential artists in "new age pop" and adult alternative circles, Lynch has extensive formal music training. Inspired by Andres Segovia's classical guitar recordings, Lynch studied the instrument in Barcelona, Spain, in the early '60s. He later attended the University of Texas as a composition student. Toward the end of the decade, Lynch moved to New York and became a fixture in the city's "early music" scene as a lutenist with Renaissance Quartette. A period of personal...
