iTunes Review

The bassist’s second album is where she started to show off her vocal skills in earnest, singing songs in three languages. Spanning breezy R&B grooves (“I Know You Know”) and harder-swinging sounds (“She Got to You”), Spalding’s original compositions also signaled the presence of a major talent. She was still years away from her first GRAMMY®, but Spalding’s style, as well as her sophisticated interaction with improvisers like pianist Leo Genovese and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, was already world-class.

The previous poster, "no good nicknames" is clearly an angry 14 year old Bieber fan who doesn't know or understand a thing about music. This artist/album is brilliant - beautiful voice and talent.

A message to the Beiber fans.

This message goes out to all the Beiber fans who are about to hate.

In case you are not aware. An auto-tuned voice in my opinion is not considered music, this artist doesn't need auto-tune to sound great and definitely deserved the award. Yes Justin Beiber is well known but he's not using his actual voice and that's why most people don't consider it as music. Esperanza has that great jazz feel from a new artist that takes some time to develop. Justin Beiber just was messing around on his computer one day then turned auto-tune on and started to make noises and someone heard and just became famous. Does Beiber deserve any more fame? Esperanza is not a well known artist and for her to get that award at the Grammy's has really started her career in which she has worked hard.

Please, don't be immature and just say "She does not know music, and definitely should not have won best new artist! She is a talent-less wanna be, I would give her no stars if I could! CRAP CRAP ABSOLUTE CRAP!" as No Good Nicknames has posted and actually leave a comment with an actual reason why he should have won, not just nonsense.

From a Bieber fan.

Her music is very mature. I happy she won but, honestly no one really knew who she was. She is talented and I'm glad she was reconized for that.

Hailed as a prodigy on the acoustic double bass within months of first touching the instrument as a 15-year-old, Esperanza Spalding has emerged as a fine jazz bassist, but has also distinguished herself playing blues, funk, hip-hop, pop fusion, and Brazilian and Afro-Cuban styles as well. Born in Portland, Oregon in 1984, Spalding was not well served by the public school system and soon dropped out of classes to be home-schooled. Returning to the public school system at 15, she encountered her first...
