iTunes Review

"Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas" opens the solo debut of the Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers with twangy tones rubbing against the grain of an anthemic modern-rock ballad. Throughout Flamingo, contrasts provide palpable tension while retaining some of the Springsteen worship that peppered the Killers' sophomore album Sam's Town. Jenny Lewis sings harmonies on the theatrical sounding "Hard Enough" where her warm and dusty vocals run perpendicular to Flowers' icy lulls. "Jilted Lovers & Broken Hearts" sounds highly inspired by Born to Run-era The Boss until the tune's bridge breaks down into a bout of post-punk ambience, but both worlds collide nicely at the end, making for a triumphant conclusion. Standout tune "Crossfire" is a perfect example of Flamingo's formula: start off with a melodramatic verse that climbs and claws its way to a fist-pumping chorus while scattering Americana appreciation like the shells of sunflower seeds. Try walking away from bonus tracks like the countrified "The Clock Was Tickin'" or the more Killers-esque "Jacksonville" without a memorable melody stuck in your head.

Vegas Should Be Proud!

Some may call Flamingo cheesy with it's neon encrusted lyrics but in reality it is an album filled with sincerity and powerful, honest lyrics not to mention that Flowers actualy sounds just as good live as he does on record. If you are not familiar with his previous works it may take a few listens to get involved but once you are there is no dissapointments. Flamingo is a real gem to be found in today's music world!

once again

There are very few bands and singers that can continuously create amazing music album after album. In his solo creation Brandon does just that. This album seems to be the embodiment of Flowers' life and a symbolic view of where he and the Killers came from. I'd like to call it an American Classic with instant international hits. His instrumental voice takes you on a beautiful melodic journey with songs like The Floor and Only the Young, where Songs like Crossfire and Welcome to beautiful Las Vegas are instant hits with a nice flow and great beats. This album is a 10 on 10 and thank you Brandon for once again making something great to listen to.

He's having an affair...

... a love affair with Las Vegas, that is. Some critics are coming down hard on Brandon's solo debut, focusing on lyrics that are so over-the-top-sincere-cheesy, that they'll have you laughing. Uh-uh. They miss the point in that this album is about Vegas - the epicentre of cheese and kitsch. Perhaps they've never been to Vegas; either way, this album conjures up vivid imagery that draws one deep into the dark nights and creaking dawns of a single-night Vegas bender, or a lifetime of rough casino-living in the middle of the desert. I think that this album will prove, over the long run, to be an album that defines the neo-Vegas "sound". Definite 5-stars for me!

Brandon Flowers was the most popular frontman of the new wave revival, which swept through America and England during the early 2000s. As frontman of the Killers, he helped popularize a genre that hadn't been fashionable for nearly two decades, drawing influence from a number of '80s synth pop bands -- including New Order, Echo & the Bunnymen, and the Psychedelic Furs -- while writing the songs that comprised his band's multi-platinum debut, Hot Fuss. Flowers also proved to be a super-sized media...
