Album Review

The single-disc distillation of Universal’s 2010 four-disc box set Revolutions: The Very Best of Steve Winwood offers as well-balanced a look at Winwood’s career as could possibly be done in a 17-track collection. Opening with a pair of the Spencer Davis Group’s biggest hits (“Gimme Some Lovin’,” “I’m a Man”), this then gives way to five selections from Traffic, including “Dear Mr. Fantasy” and “Glad,” and a stop at Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home” before winding through all of his ‘80s solo hits (substituting a new 2010 version of “Spanish Dancer” for the original), concluding with a duet with Eric Clapton on “Dirty City.” There may be a few other tracks that could have made the cut, but what is here provides an effective introductory sampler to Winwood’s wide-ranging career.

Amazing songs of it's times

Really can't ask for a better feel good music album. His work in the 80's has always been playing in my stereo. Really surprised to be the first to review as people are missing out. Way to bring back some of the best 80's songs written and performed.

Stevie has a voice like no other.

As a solo artist, Steve Winwood is primarily associated with the highly polished blue-eyed soul-pop that made him a star in the '80s. Yet his turn as a slick, upscale mainstay of adult contemporary radio was simply the latest phase of a long and varied career, one that's seen the former teenage R&B shouter move through jazz, psychedelia, blues-rock, and progressive rock. Possessed of a powerful, utterly distinctive voice, Winwood was also an excellent keyboardist who remained an in-demand session...
