iTunes Editors' Notes

Following the overwhelming success of his outfit’s 2010 effort Handwritten, intrepid Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon changes direction yet again. On Get Hurt, the New Jersey rock fivesome refine their approach by further leaving behind the gritty textures and punk-like verve of their early releases for sumptuous arrangements and mood-driven slow burns. While there are intermittent flashes of the uptempo (the roaring “Rollin’ and Tumblin’” and “Helter Skeleton”), much of Get Hurt finds Fallon milking long crescendos to masterly effect, as he does on the haunting title track and the organ-spiked, National-indebted simmer of “Underneath the Ground.” Still, few moments are quite as powerful as the coda of “Dark Places,” a starlit anthem that finds Fallon taking on familiar shades of Springsteen amid curtains of ringing guitars.

Customer Reviews

sounds good so far!

From the two singles, sounds like it's going to be a solid Gaslight album. I definitely hear the '59 sound as well as elements of Handwritten, also two solid albums. Can't wait for it.

Another Album full of great songs.

Less Bruce, more Vedder. Less Mary and nostalgia, more grown up and confident of their own talents. Gaslight has grown into a bonafide rock band. Make sure you check out 1,000 Years (lots of Tom Petty here), Stay Vicious and Break Your Heart. Those of you who go for the Deluxe Album won’t be disappointed: Sweet Morphine and Have Mercy are both great tunes.

Can’t Wait To Hear The Rest

From listening to the first few songs that have been released, I can tell that this album is going to be fantastic. I love the energy in Rollin’ and Tumblin’ and Stay Vicious, and the sound of Get Hurt is brilliant. The Gaslight Anthem is definitely perfecting their sound as a band with this album. I can’t wait for the rest of the album to be released.
