Deeply Beautiful

It's hard to define the music of David Darling because he is influenced by so many different genres. He takes music from every tradition and distills it into the essential voice of the human soul. His recordings are all incredible in their own ways, but this one is particularly timely. At a point in our history and in our shared journey in which there is so much collective fear, stress and unfocused rage in the collective unconscious, Prayer for Compassion reminds us of the still strength that exists at our core. It's evocative of the dignity of human yearning and human struggle. It's also, quite simply, beautiful. There is nothing quite like the sound of a cello played that well.

Eclectic composer/cellist David Darling incorporates jazz, classical, country, pop, and new age music into his playing and compositions. Starting as a child, Darling displayed facility with many different instruments and styles of music; he began with piano at age four, moved to cello six years later, and played string bass in his high school band (while also serving as bandleader).
