Editors’ Notes

Is it possible that Scott Weiland can hold together what Axl Rose could not? For their second album, Velvet Revolver sound very much like a band that understands how to work together. As lead singer, Weiland brings an authoritative spark, while Guns n' Roses alumni, guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum push forth the punkish ends of their roots, pummeling through the riffage to deliver steamrolling, ragged-on-the-edges hard rock (“Let It Roll,” “American Man”). Producer Brendan O’Brien keeps things tight and focused. Velvet Revolver sound like a veteran act effortlessly spitting out the hard rock playbook with strong new maneuvers. An ELO cover of “Can’t Get It Out of My Head” hints at the pop attributes that the band incorporate into their own writing. “Mary Mary” gives Slash a few spots to sport his leadwork, but it’s back to Weiland for the churning chorus before the four and a half minutes are up.

Close but no Revolver...

Very good album in comparison to today's stream of rock music pretenders, miles ahead of the competition but not even close to the impact Contraband had, the sound is not as evident in creative approaches to songs, as well as Slash's solos and riffs. Every song seems to have the same tempo rather than mixing it up on every tune as Contraband had done, which had you thinking "I wonder what style they will tackle next???" as opposed to "When are they going to try some other pace???" However, a very good album, just pointing out the minor flaws, some exceptions on this album do hail back to Contraband likeness.

concept of music building on u never fails to impress!!!

wow. when i first heard this album I wasn't impressed at all. NOw I would say I like it a lot. not love, but like. I think love will come with time haha. funny how it goes. scott weiland can pretty much do whatever he wants with what he has under his belt. genious he is. i'd listen to nething he's got to say. Great album, don't think it will amount to contraband but still great. just sixteen, lastfight, can't get it out of my head and she builds quick machines are ausome. wouldn't it be great if Jerry Cantrell and Scott teamed up???? wow.....

"Libertad" from todays boring and monotonous music scene!

If it's a fresh sounding, dirty gritty sexy music look no further than VR's new Album Libertad. It's a breathe fo fresh air to today's stagnant music scence. This is the album where VR finds its voice, and what a mighty voice it is. This album delivers from start to finish; it's one hell of a heart throbbing in you feet of roller coast ride. The band meshes perfectly. 2 years on the road may have nearly killed the guys but at the same time the chemistry developed is intangible. My only complaint it that the song “Messages” was left off the album and is included as extra on the import version.

Velvet Revolver began with a spring 2002 jam session that reunited ex-Guns N' Roses bandmates Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), and Matt Sorum (drums) on-stage. With the discovery that their chemistry was still going strong, the trio began pushing around some new music and auditioning singers for what became known as "the Project." Early entries included ex-Buckcherry shouter Josh Todd and Neurotica's Kelly Shaefer; both became acquainted with the cutting room floor. By early 2003, the existence...
