Perfect contemporary choral music

The King's Singers have struck the perfect chord with Simple Gifts. All to often when classical choral groups try to sing outside their typical genre, the effect is forced and leaves you feeling slightly embarrassed for them. But not with this CD: it is nothing short of heaven. With their outstanding vocal professionalism, it's as if we hear these familiar songs for the first time. Why? The arrangements are outstanding and demonstrate a deep understanding of the lyrics and song's intent. Each of the selections are "simple gifts". There isn't another album like it, except perhaps, Six, which is also by the King's Singers. I can't wait for their next one.

The King's Singers is an entertaining, six-man vocal ensemble which tours the world singing a variety of repertory to appreciative listeners. The group was formed in 1965 by a few of the choral scholars of the Choir of King's College, Cambridge. They had decided to make a private recording of some of the secular music they had been working on, calling themselves "Schola Cantorum Pro Musica Profana in Cantabridgiense."
