Great Southern Soul from CC

The capsule review does no justice whatsoever to this album. It's probably CC's best one and predates the sappy Patches which became his signature song later. "Slip Away" is a stone classic and was an R'n'B hit for Clarence at the time, and while the album contains the usual couple of filler tracks (hence 4 stars), it's also got a slew of great stuff from the peak of the Muscle Shoals/Memphis era. The Jimmy Hughes nugget "I'm Qualified" gets a great treatment while "Looking for a Fox" and "She Ain't Gonna Do Right" stand proudly next to anything recorded by his contemporaries like Wilson Pickett and Solomon Burke. Classic sixties soul. Period.
