EDITORS’ NOTES

With their follow-up to 2015’s Revisionist, Brooklyn instrumental trio Sannhet unfurl an accomplished album full of cinematic peaks and valleys. Alternately swirling, chiming, and pulsing, guitar-driven tracks like “Sapphire,” “Sleep Well,” and the drum-led “Way Out” offer master classes in instrumental-rock dynamics, while the somber “Fernbeds” features guest guitar from Thom Wasluck of one-man shoegaze-metal outfit Planning for Burial. Sannhet even go goth on “Salts,” creating an overall effect that is both uplifting and vaguely narcotic.

About Sannhet

Merging post-metal, sludge, and black metal, instrumental trio Sannhet combine some of metal's most atmospheric effects to create their churning, experimental sounds. Formed in Brooklyn, New York in 2010, the trio of guitarist John Refano, bassist AJ Annunziata, and drummer Christopher Todd made a name for themselves with their intense live sets, which paired the band's dense sound with a visual display, giving the audience something to hold onto while Sannhet purposefully built their layered and monolithic elements into massive walls of sound. Their debut full-length, Known Flood, arrived on Sacrament Records in 2013. Later that same year the band issued the two-song EP Lion's Eye. They released a sophomore full-length outing, Revisionist, in 2015 via San Francisco-based experimental label The Flenser, and in 2016 the band put out a compilation of rare early and unreleased material titled Young Death. The group's third studio long-player, So Numb, arrived in 2017 via Profound Lore. ~ Gregory Heaney
