Best 2% of Hearing Loss I’ve Ever Experienced

As a fan of these guys since ’01, this is their best work since Welcome to the Night Sky from 2007. While I have enjoyed all of their work nonetheless, this album is solid from the first beat of Loel’s drum on “Amerika”, a riveting opener followed by joyful distortion like “Santa Fe” and unique riffs like that of “Lifting Cure”. “More Than” gives me some 80’s nostalgia, something Wintersleep has never done, and I dig it.

The highlights of the album were the nice three pack of “Shadowless”, “Metropolis” and “Spirit”. The latter of which I called the Weighty Ghost of 2016, just a ballad of good vibes, 3:36 of the best illegal drug you could get your hands on.

“Freak Out” stands on its own, the oddball of the album, no apologies needed, great f’n tune. “Love Lies” is undeniably fetching and another high spot, and follows up with “Territory”, which takes a few listens but grows on you. “Who Are You” is the perfect closer to this solid and veracious collection, and contests for the best track on the album. All in all, an outstanding showing from the Legends of Eastern Canadian Autonomous Rock!

This has long been my favourite band. From the self titled to The Great Detachment you really can't go wrong. My only hope is they keep making music until their arms fall off. Thanks for representing Canada with your amazing music.

heck ya!

The band graduated to the big time -- that is to say the major labels -- in 2006, when Wintersleep signed with Labwork, a subsidiary of EMI Canada. Members Paul Murphy (vocals and guitar), Tim...
