Album Review

Though Al Berard was obviously the frontman and lead voice in the band, the Basin Brothers were still an ensemble at this point rather than Berard's backing group. Berard shares several songwriting credits with Danny Collet, who departed the band after this album and formed his own band, the Swamp Cats. The two were an excellent team, and they played off each other very well on both traditional and original tunes. Whatever tensions may have existed between the two of them, they were indistinguishable amid the torrent of lighthearted dance music. Stayin' Cajun is an excellent blend of traditional waltzes and two-steps with new music written in the same styles, and is a keeper for anyone who appreciates the music of Louisiana.
