iTunes Review

If Two Door Cinema Club's second album sounds highly polished in contrast to its already-slick 2010 debut, Tourist History, that’s because the Northern Ireland trio employed the Midas touch of Jacknife Lee, who's sat in the production chair for U2, R.E.M., and Snow Patrol. Right from the outstanding opener, “Next Year,” it’s evident that these young men have surpassed any semblance of a sophomore slump with next-level pop architecture. The uncanny alchemy of dance beats, knotted guitar leads, and driving bass create a kinetic groove of contrasting elements working together. This lets Alex Trimble’s androgynous vocals float overhead. “Handshake” works in some of that post-punk angularity with complementary disco rhythms to make for a tune that struts with similar DNA as Phoenix, Air, and The Postal Service. Trimble’s Morten Harket–like inflections take on a gorgeous vulnerability in “Sleep Alone,” a gem that somehow makes tour isolation sound sexy. He’s even more exposed in “The World Is Watching,” an engrossing ballad of Thom Yorke–esque paranoia.

je crois bien qu'il s'agit de leur meilleur album jusqu'à présent, je le recommendes à tous. Vraiment super bon !!!

Two Door Cinema Club just keeps on getting better! All the songs are fantastic, memorable and original but my favorites are Sleep Alone, The World Is Watching, Handshake and Next Year. I love their individuality with their sound and style.

I have to admit, if it wasn't for the single of the week Something Good Can Work a while back, I would've missed out on an awesome band. Thank you iTunes :P

Trimble and Halliday met in school, and met Baird through mutual friends. The trio began playing as Two Door Cinema Club in 2007 and skipped going to university to focus on the band. Fortunately, the gamble paid off -- the band's debut EP,...
