This vinyl compendium of the pianist's work as leader and sideman for the JOB label from 1951 to 1955 contains some of his hardiest sides. His vocal roar on the jumping "When I Was Young" and a lowdown "Worried About My Baby" and "Down Home Child" is exemplary, while the swinging instrumental "Bassology" verges on a Count Basie motif. Slim's 88s anchor sides by J.B. Lenoir, Johnny Shines, and drummer Alfred Wallace to complete the LP.
