iTunes Editors' Notes

Lindi Ortega’s slightly textured voice is ideal for country music. She sounds like two-thirds of Trio (The Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris quotient) and inflects with such a natural drawl that it’s hard to believe she hails from Canada and not Nashville. Her Tennessee Christmas EP starts with the romantic “Christmas Eve With You”: an acoustic yuletide ditty where her voice sails over acoustic guitar and banjo, sounding like something recorded in front of a fireplace on a wintry Ontario eve. She follows this with the sprightly “All I Want for Christmas Is a Cowboy.” Here, those same front-porch instruments put together a barn-burning carol where Ortega pines for a bona fide good ol’ boy on a horse. Her Dobro-dappled rendition of Elvis Presley’s “Blue Christmas” plays like a timeless honky-tonk tune; mandolins and fiddles chime in to give an antiquated feel. She closes with a bittersweet narrative in “Christmas Carol,” a story about a devout door-to-door singer with a pretty voice whom the townsfolk nicknamed Christmas Carol.
