iTunes Review

The Fame is in many ways the perfect soundtrack for 2008, a year in which celebrity culture, club culture, and fashion culture achieved absolute fusion. The album’s philosophy is summarized on its title track: “I can’t help myself / I’m addicted to a life of material / It’s some kind of joke / I’m obsessively opposed to the typical.” Lady GaGa looks to the icy, synthesized funk of the ‘80s for inspiration, and the album’s unapologetic (and unironic) celebration of consumerism is a throwback to the Reagan years. Lady GaGa has explained that the album is about “how anyone can feel famous,” and in a strange way its nihilistic obsession with fame and wealth is a compelling reaction to a crumbling American economy. Unlike similar records by Britney Spears or Katy Perry, Lady GaGa’s background as a DJ validates her songs. “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” “Beautiful, Dirty, Rich,” “Money Honey,” and “Starstruck” are grounded in the hypnotic funk of classic disco. Lady GaGa reaches for the careless hedonism of Studio 54 and while The Fame isn't likely to be an enduring album, there's something oddly comforting about an album that wants only to speak to the needs of the present moment.

Madonna? Hell no. THIS IS LADY GAGA.

this album was so much more than i expected, lady gaga's actually got me stunned! and i hate how everyone's calling her the next madonna when she's so much more than that! She brings something new and amazing to the music world, and i'm not normally one for techno beats and stuff. I saw her perform on So You Think You Can Dance and she was SO GREAT LIVE! And with that, i can say her voice has little editing. Then i found out she actually writes (or at least co-writes) most if not all of her songs, infact she wrote a bunch of songs for other bands and britney spears before she became LADY GAGA. Must buy!!!!

Best Album of 2008!

Lady GaGa is amazing! The songs are insanely catchy, and her persona in her music video's and performances is nothing short of art. Everyone must buy this album!

Glamorously gaudy, a self-made post-modern diva stitched together from elements of Madonna, David Bowie, and Freddie Mercury, Lady Gaga was the first true millennial superstar. Mastering the constant connection of the internet era, Gaga generated countless mini-sensations through her style, her videos, and her music, cultivating a devoted audience she dubbed "Little Monsters." But it wasn't just a cult that turned her 2008 manifesto The Fame into a self-fulfilling prophecy: Gaga crossed over into...
