iTunes Review

The opener on Band of Horses’ debut album could only be called “The First Song.” Its combination of Ben Bridwell’s lump-in-throat vocals and melancholic guitar elicits such an eye-welling response that you can forgive him for not thinking up a proper title. The group’s fearlessly dramatic strain of indie rock isn’t afraid to get heavy in both the musical and lyrical sense. Thanks to stirring standouts like “The Funeral” and “Monsters,” Everything All the Time never fails to provide emotional support for life’s most fragile moments.

Best Debut Album of 2006

This is by far the most promising album I've heard this year and I am excited to see what these guys do next. I went to the show at Lee's Palace (Toronto) this past June, and they did not disappoint... they are the real deal. This album is sure to be one I go back to time and time again. I don’t want to get into “genre talk” or comparison nonsense; this album is just plain GOOD. That’s it… good solid music, incredible vocals… a new age Neal Young. Bravo.

Great Indie Rock

If you're a fan of The Promise Ring, Modest Mouse, or Built to Spill you will love this record. It's full of catchy hooks and melodic, airy vocals. Great chill record.

Excellent music

The iTunes review is close to the mark: the sound on this album is a lot like Wayne Coyne singing with Crazy Horse circa Rust Never Sleeps. Having said this, there is also more than a little of My Morning Jacket and Grandaddy in the mix here as well. If My Morning Jacket's "Z" appealed to you, this album is also likely to make your day.

Emerging in 2004 with a blend of woodsy midtempo rock and reverb-laden vocals, Band of Horses gained an audience in their native Northwest before Everything All the Time made them indie rock darlings. Multi-instrumentalists Ben Bridwell and Mat Brooke founded the group after an eight-year run with Carissa's Wierd, and an early concert alongside future labelmates Iron & Wine caught the attention of Sub Pop Records. Sub Pop signed Band of Horses in 2005 and reissued their self-released EP later that...
