A Different Side of The Hold Steady

This gives an amazing glimpse of the band showcasing their songs with intricate, delicate acoustic tastiness. I was there the night they taped it, and the feeling in the room was unbelievably warm. Craig smiled all the way through the show. The whole thing is gorgeous, but the version of "Both Crosses" here is astounding. I have never seen a band dive that deep inside a song before, ever.

Resisting the musical trends in New York City, vocalist/guitarist Craig Finn (ex-Lifter Puller) formed the Hold Steady after moving from Minneapolis in 2000. Wanting to capture the sound of bands such as the Replacements and the Grifters, he recruited guitarist Tad Kubler (also ex-Lifter Puller), drummer Judd Counsell, and bassist Galen Polivka.
