We Need more Willie P. Bennett on iTunes!

I'd love to see Hobo's Taunt, Trying to Start Out Clean, Blackie & the Rodeo King here on itunes...Willie P. Bennett is a Canadian treasure and and his music deserves to be heard by the world.

Willie P. Bennett rules!

A re-release of Willie P's 1988 Duke Street album, The Lucky Ones features many tunes which Bennett performed live (and on a sold-off-the stage cassette) with Canadian guitar wizard Colin Linden. Masterful songwriting is in evidence on many of these songs!

Listeners of this album are indeed, The Lucky Ones

This was my first Willie P Bennett album, and honestly, it changed my life. Hearing the truth, the beauty, the sadness, the joy, and that amazing voice... it moved me, remained with me, and set me off on a quest to hear everything this man had ever done. I truly believe that Willie was Canada's greatest songwriter. He wasn't out to make art, he was out to touch your heart, and nobody that I've ever heard has been more successful. His songs are simple and direct, you don't need any great insights to understand them or to feel them, you just have to have lived, loved, and felt.

True, much of his best work is on his earliest albums, but since those are currently unavailable, I'm grateful that at least you can start here. Check out the title track, Goodbye, So Long, Hello, Tryin' to Start out Clean, and Patience of a Working Man, all of which have been covered by other great artists, and rightly so.

Download this and give it a little bit of time. You'll be glad you did.

In his native Canada, Willie P. Bennett is held in high esteem as one of the greatest talents in folk music. Some dared to even call him the Willie Nelson of Canada, but one has to be cautious with such comparisons, most Canadians not being happy with such allegories involving the big brother in the south. Despite excellent ratings, Bennett has never enjoyed any big commercial success. Outside Canada, his status has always remained a sort of hidden jewel well worth tracking down.
