The 2014 compilation Playlist: The Very Best of Edgar Winter brings together a cross section of material from the popular blues-rock artist. Primarily, Playlist focuses on Winter's heyday during the 1970s when he reigned as the the de facto king of hang-loose guitar rock and jam-oriented blues. Included here are such hits as "Free Ride," "Frankenstein," "Rock and Roll H*****e Koo," "Hangin' Around," and others. As a single-disc introduction to Winter's best-known material, Playlist works quite well.

As a consequence, his fan base may not be what it could have been, had he made a conscious effort -- like his brother Johnny -- to stay in a blues-rock...
