Album Review

Although he's best known today for his acting roles in the television series Band of Brothers and ER, Scott Grimes has actually been a working musician since the late '80s, when his first album was released. His long-delayed sophomore effort finds him continuing to refine a sound that makes up in sheer hooks for what it lacks in originality. Grimes has no pretensions here, which is refreshing, and he wears his influences on his sleeve, which is a bit less refreshing but works well for him nonetheless: you'll hear a hint of Bryan Adams here, what sounds like a muscled-up REO Speedwagon outtake there, and when he's at his most derivative (on the invigorating "Around and Around"), more than a subtle hint of Billy Joel. But at his best you don't really notice the influences because you become so thoroughly caught up in the feelings he conveys and so entranced by his effortless way with a hook. Those moments come most forcefully on the emotional heartland rock of the title track and the even better "Summerthing," one of the most ecstatic driving songs you're ever likely to hear. Yes, Grimes has a minor cliché problem — song titles include "I Wanna Be There," "Rock'n'Roll Girl," and "Best Days of My Life," and if you think you can imagine the sound and tempo of each of those songs just from reading the titles, you're right. But you'll get a big kick out of them anyway. Recommended.

Customer Reviews

I'm just a "Rock N Roll Girl" who has found her new favorite album!

I just purchased Scott's album "Livin' On The Run" today on it's rerelease. I have to say that it is an absolute breathtakingly stunning masterpiece. "Livin' On The Run" is a completely well rounded album with a perfect mix of mellow and upbeat tunes that will put much joy in your heart. And Scott's gorgeous velvet voice will have you covered in goosebumps from the first note of the first song to the last note of the last song.

I have purchased many albums over the years but NONE have touched my heart like Scott's album "Livin' On The Run" has just done right now. Take just a few moments to preview some of Scott's tunes like "Sunset Blvd Alternate mix", "There Ain't Nothin", "Rock N Roll Girl" & "Carrie" and I am almost certain you too will fall in love with the album!

More than just another Album

Bought "Livin' On The Run" and as soon as I heard it completely through once, I wanted to shout out "THIS IS CRAZY GOOD!!!!" After having a good solid listen to it a few times through, all I can say is Scott plays with an intensity and purity that I have not found in any other artist anywhere. What makes this album so beautiful is each song has it's own flavor and beat yet put them together on the album and they all compliment each other like cheese does to wine. Not to mention Scott has such a genuine and pure voice that he will leave you wanting to put the album on repeat!

An Awesome Buffet of Tunes!

Wow! Scott's beautiful voice is such a refreshing delight! This album is like an all you can eat buffet, where there is something on the album for everyone and it will leave you wanting more.
