Though Isabelle Boulay scored her big break in a mid-’90s production of the perennial Québécois rock opera Starmania, her second solo album offers a down-to-earth antidote to the big stage spectacle. It’s a sunset-gorgeous set of Cajun-spiced roots rock. But its intimate environs can’t contain the outsized emotion Boulay brings to her performances, whether she’s investing the bluesy “Les yeux au ciel” with a cat-in-heat restlessness or transforming the post-breakup sentiment of “Je t’oublierai, je t’oublierai” into a statement of defiance.
