Customer Reviews

This newest addition to Hawksley's repitoire is more consitantly melodic and moody than his latest works, but without suffering any loss of style. Hawksley sings dreamily but seems grounded in a world of ex-lovers and country sunsets. If you're already a fan you're going to love this, and if you weren't before then I have one word for you: welcome.

Back to basics

It's very refreshing to hear Hawksley get back to basics again. This was what made his first album, "For him and the girls", so great, and where his second had it's best moments too. Not that he's not immensely talented on all his albums, but it's in the softer moments where he really shines. For those who like this album (who wouldn't?), definitely check out "For him and the girls" too -- almost every song on there is pure genius.

Another Beautiful Album

Having been a Hawklsey fan for years, and seeing his progression through his music, i didnt know what to expect from this album, but i was thouroughly impressed, and I absoloutly love Treeful of Starling. It reminds me of his best work in For Him And The Girls. Hawklsey is immensly talented in everyhitng he does. but he is at his best in these apocolyptic love songs that have so much emotion and brilliance in them. Hawksley makes songs about the end of the world sound magical. (see You And The Candles)

Years Active: '00s

The story of Canadian singer/songwriter Hawksley Workman is equally compelling whether you take it as fact or fantasy. Workman, who would eventually launch a celebrated career as solo artist and indie rock producer, was born and raised in Bay Lake. From this point on, however, the tale gets somewhat hazy and wholly bizarre, owing in large part to the short, ongoing biography published on his website. Self-styled by the artist himself, it seemed to be a partially invented, quasi-fictional account...
