Customer Reviews

I'm slightly inclined to disagree with the iTunes reviewer; having heard all of the New Pornographers' albums, I feel that they only keep getting better and better with every try. Twin Cinema was the first album that I heard, the one that drew me in and made NP one of my favourite bands. It is filled with amazing moments; the soaring guitars of "Bones of an Idol", the head-banging dance-able "Use It", and the undeniably sexy opening chords of "Three or Four"; I could go on, but this review would never end. Needless to say, each song on Twin Cinema has its own moment that makes it truly amazing, leaving this album with very few weak spots, although the strange "Broken Beads" takes a while to get used to. The highlights of the album are most certainly the heartbreakingly gorgeous and complex "Bleeding Heart Show", which starts slow and builds to an aching, celebratory climax, as well as the Neko Case-driven "These are the Fables", which always breaks my heart. Twin Cinema is gorgeous; I only needed to hear "Use It" once before buying the entire thing. Listening to it, it becomes obvious that there still is talent in the music industry, and it's almost frightening how good this songwriting is. Just amazing.

Instant Affection

I explicitly remember my first listen to this CD. I had heard Use It and was quite surprised by its differences with every other song on the CD. The Cd was an amazing transcendant experience in its entirety. Each song was like a different dimension of pure music. I haven't a negative thing to say about it. Entirely spectacular.

pretty good

This is a pretty good cd. I don't think every song is fantastic but for the ones that are worth it, you won't be disappointed. My top 3...Use It, Broken Beads, and The Bleeding Heart Show.

The Vancouver indie rock supergroup the New Pornographers feature the talents of Zumpano's Carl Newman, the Evaporators' John Collins, Destroyer's Dan Bejar, cartoonist/filmmaker Blaine Thurier, drummer Fisher Rose, and guest vocalist Neko Case. Newman began the band in 1996 as a lark after releasing Zumpano's Goin' Through Changes; one by one, the other members joined the fold, and the New Pornographers' first official rehearsal took place in 1997. By the following year, the group had completed...
