Editors’ Notes

Few singers have been through as many phases as R&B veteran R. Kelly. His career has touched on everything from New Jack Swing to adult contemporary, and he's racked up an amazingly diverse list of collaborations, from Michael Jackson to Notorious B.I.G. With recent hits like “I’m A Flirt” and “Same Girl,” Kelly has proved his relevancy to today’s audience. Now, with his ninth album, Untitled, Kelly returns to the sound of his mid-‘90s glory days. “Religious,” “Whole Lotta Kisses” and “Go Low” are pared-down, sincere productions that recall vintage Kelly slow jams from 12 Play and R. Of course, over the past decade Kelly has become best-known for his concept songs, and “Echo,” “Bangin’ the Headboard” and “Text Me” are the kind of come-ons that only Kelly can get away with. Meanwhile, “Pregnant” is “baby-makin’ music” in the most literal sense. Above all, the material on Untitled proves that no one has more fun with R&B than Kelly. At 42, he is a seasoned player, but his voice has never sounded better, and Untitled proves that youth is no match for old-fashioned charm and cleverness.

Customer Reviews

This is one amazing R.Kelly album. The best tracks on here are: Religious (5/5), Number One(4/5), Pregnant(4.5/5), and Crazy Night(4/5).

it's all digitally altered. WHY? He has an amazing voice, doesn't need to sink to this level like so many others who can't really sing...ya, you know who I'm talkin' 'bout. LOL

This is a very poor effort from an amazing artist. It features songs from his leaked and never release album 12 play: the 4th quarter... which is forgivable, but he could have at least taken out the drops where he shouts "12 play 4th quarter". Overall a very weak offering from Kels. i hope he steps it up next time.

R&B producer/vocalist/multi-instrumentalist/songwriter R. Kelly and his supporting band Public Announcement began recording in 1992 at the tail-end of the new jack swing era, yet he was able to keep much of its sound alive while remaining commercially successful. While he created a smooth, professional mixture of hip-hop beats, soulman crooning, and funk, the most distinctive element of Kelly's music is its explicit carnality. He was able to make songs like "Sex Me," "Bump n' Grind," "Your Body's...
