iTunes Review

“Use Somebody” twirls in a splashing of guitar riffs and reverb-ed atmospherics, the backing vocals merging with the indistinct drones of the wispy keyboards. “Manhattan” most directly recalls the soulful screed of the Crowes’ Chris Robinson, while the band show unusual restraint leaving silences and space where they once would’ve come out with all guns drawn. With a jazzy precision “Crawl” and “Sex on Fire” employ a musical intricacy.

Anthems to Shiver the Spine.

It's been a while since I've had an album send shivers down my spine over an over with each track. Power anthems, teased with sharp guitar work and Caleb's lazy yet precise voice makes this the hands down best album I've heard this year.

A little too mainstream

Don't get me wrong - I like this album and still think it's worth buying, but I have to agree with other reviews complaining that some of the tracks are a bit too much like anything you can hear on the radio. I was especially disappointed with iTunes deciding to feature "Use Somebody" as one of their Best In The Store tracks. There are clearly way better songs on this album that represent Kings of Leon - I would have used Crawl or I Want You. I still think Because of the Times is a way better effort by KOL.

I Want You, Kings of Leon!

The Kings of Leon are truly one of the better bands in today's music. All of their songs are so tenderly written and beautifully sung. This album does not let down. I really like "Be Somebody" and "Cold Desert." Amazing. Buy it!

Initially embraced as "the Southern Strokes" for their resurrection and reinvention of Dixie-styled rock & roll, Kings of Leon steadily morphed into an experimental rock outfit during the 2000s. The Tennessee-bred quartet debuted in 2003 with the Holy Roller Novocaine EP, whose blend of raw, unpolished boogie rock was further explored on their debut full-length, Youth & Young Manhood. Such revivalist music was matched by a similarly revivalist appearance -- including long hair, mustaches, and tight-fitting...
