Album Review

Released in 2008, Cartel de Santa, Vol. 4 tells the story of member MC Babo, who had spent most of 2007 behind bars, fighting a murder rap. Veteran fans will be pleased to hear the Mexican hip-hop crew’s defiant attitude, as many of the tracks pledge to carry on in spite of Babo’s legal troubles. Besides the serious jail songs, Cartel de Santa, Vol. 4 also features some hedonistic club numbers, including the leadoff single, “Huy Mumita.”

Mexican hardcore rap group Cartel de Santa made their eponymous full-length debut in 2003 and grew increasingly popular with each subsequent album release. Founded in 1996 in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, Mexico, the group was originally comprised of MC Babo (born Eduardo Dávalos de Luna), MC Dharius, producer Rowan Rabia, and DJ Agustín.
