iTunes Review

San Diego’s Switchfoot was at the forefront of the contemporary Christian hard rock scene for so long that it easily assimilated into the mainstream without sacrificing its sense of musical adventure. Vice Verses is the kind of ambitious hard rock record that fans will celebrate with good reason. It’s arguably the best of the group’s career, filled with songs that flash hooks with muscle. “The War Inside” masters the art of the dramatic arc, where keyboards loom in the background while guitars crush the competition. “Blinding Light” sets off with the group’s alt-pop side shimmering through. “Dark Horses” works both a moody texture and an anthemic chorus. The title track shifts toward Switchfoot’s acoustic arena-rock-ballad side, evoking U2 at its most intimate. “Restless” creates a pop haze both ethereal and powerful. “Selling the News” takes a political-sociological turn with vocal manipulations. “Where I Belong” rasps with a seductive warmth. The deluxe version includes a live concert from Center Stage in Atlanta that features many of the band’s fan favorites.

Never fail!

Switchfoot are back! I pre-ordered the album with high hopes and was not disappointed!
A mix of classic Switchfoot full on rock-out tunes and moving ballads, filled with meaningful lyrics as always.
I'm definitely digging Vice Verses!

Best in a long time

Tried and true. Switchfoot again rises to the top!

Great Switchfoot, as expected

Switchfoot's latest offering, as expected, does not disappoint. Strong songs throughout, they get their message across clearly. And I love it. Perhaps my favorite record of theirs of all time (possibly surpassing 2005's Nothing is Sound). Favorite songs include "Thrive", "Vice Verses", "Blinding Light", "Where I Belong", "The War Inside", "Souvenirs", "Selling the News", "Afterlife" and... well, pretty much every song! But to cut to the chase, it's an incredible record, and you will not be disappointed if you buy it. It's a must buy!

After gaining a foothold in the contemporary Christian music scene, Switchfoot went mainstream with 2003's The Beautiful Letdown, a double-platinum album that straddled the line between sacred and secular rock music. Years before Switchfoot's commercial breakthrough, though, the group struggled to make a dent in the San Diego area, where singer/guitarist Jonathan Foreman, bassist Tim Foreman, and drummer Chad Butler began playing together in 1996. The lineup logged several shows under its original...
