iTunes Review

Though Joanne Shaw Taylor was in her early 20s when she recorded her debut, the music sounds like the work of a blues guitarist who has spent decades honing her craft in every smoky club between Memphis and London. She certainly channels the soulful strength of her key influences (Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix). But just as impressive is her knack for restraint. “Heavy Heart” and “Just Another Word” are powerful precisely because Shaw’s playing is so understated and elegant.

I am blown away!

Quite the unexpected find I must say. I'm unsure of the comparisons to the late great SRV but time will tell. Perhaps in ten years time we shall be saying a new player sound like the great JST! I give you my highest complement Joanne - I spent my money on you! Look forward to many more songs in the future.

A nice surprise!

I had never heard of Joanne. I have become a hardened fan of Joe Bonamassa, and in turn, only found out about him thru my love of Beth Hart, who I found out from a friend drummer in the Nashville area. We had been in conversation regarding Steve Marriot's vocal talents, especially in the song, I Dont Need No Doctor, recorded at Philmore East. She says to me, "You gotta see the video of Beth Hart doin that tune", and I said, "Who?"
I kno, long story. But heres the thing. Music for and from the soul. I love good music, and all of the above play and feel the music from deep within. Don't take my word for it. Play some. You'll get it. Jami (Drummrgrl)

Great guitar, sultry voice

Excellent album.

Joanne Shaw TaylorTaylor embodies all the elements of modern blues, even if she sings with a distinctively British accent. Given her extraordinary dexterity as a guitarist and well-developed vocal chops, Taylor was already a sensation on the blues festival circuit in both the U.S. and Great Britain when only in her mid-twenties. Taylor caught the blues bug as a young teenager growing up in the Birmingham area. She heard guitarists Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert Collins, and Jimi Hendrix and knew then...
