Editors’ Notes

With the departure of Claudia Deheza, School of Seven Bells is now a duo. While Ms. Claudia's harmonies are missed, remaining twin Alejandra Deheza multi-tracks her voice and, along with Ben Curtis, programs keyboards and dance beats to ensure the team is never at a loss for excitement. Ghostory is said to be a concept album, "the tale of a young girl named Lafaye and the ghosts that surround her life." If one listens closely to the lyrics, a story does emerge. However, the vocals are dipped in enough reverb to make the story secondary to the wistful sounds, which evoke memories of Cocteau Twins and Kate Bush as they hit the ethereal patch of "Reappear." "Show Me Love" pulses with delicate urgency. "Scavenger" kicks up the tempo for a Eurodisco feel. This version of the album features two bonus cuts: a remix of "Low Times" and "Unnature," where the duo further explores forest shadows as ominous keyboards and bass patterns stalk Deheza's translucent vocals into the ether.
