Beautiful song, inexplicable b-side

While You Wait for the Others is an intriguing and goregeous song. Daniel Rossen' s voice conveys a sense of insecurity and hurt in the beginning but following the line "I ask you kindly to make your way" his strengh seems to be regained. The backup vocals provided by the rest of the band in the chorus reinforces this new-found confidence (like a group of buddies helping their newly broken-hearted friend by, say, taunting his ex). The sense of resentment continues to build, until the final chorus. You think he might crack, but he keeps his vocal compusure, the song remains pretty, and the listener is left feeling satisfied that the protagonist can move on. The B-side, on the other hand is inexplicably weird. It's the same song but vocals are by soul-crooner Michael McDonald of Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan fame. All I can say is this version has a completely different atmosphere, which frankly, makes me feel uncomfortable. It's an interesting interpretation, I'll give it that, but I don't understand its merit. Is this their attempt to break into the 50+ fanbase? It's 99 cents and maybe worth a listen for McDonald fans who are looking for something a little different, or for GB fans to cringe along to.

I LIKE THE ORIGINAL

Dudes, wtf the original was the best!!!! People, dont screw with the tracks lol :::)))

Forget the original!

What's so "inexplicable" about having one of the greatest voices in poprock history perform one of your songs? The world would be a much finer place if all the pitchy and precious indie vocalists were replaced by Michael McDonald. Even better, take the masters of every indie release of the last 10 years and stick Michael in the mix! Good job, Grizzly Bear!

Grizzly Bear began as a home recording project for Boston-bred experimentalist Edward Droste, the son of an elementary school teacher, who laid the groundwork for the band's otherworldly debut album on a small hand-held tape recorder while holed up for 15 months in his Greenpoint, Brooklyn, apartment. His homespun D.I.Y. effort took on new life with the help of multi-instrumentalist Christopher Bear, a Chicago native who had worked in a diverse range of musical...
