Album Review

In September 2003, pop/adult contemporary group Casting Crowns released their self-titled debut. After hearing one of their independent projects, Sawyer Brown's Mark Miller signed the band — composed of members Mark Hall (lead vocals), Chris Huffman (bass), Melodee DeVevo (violin/vocals), Juan DeVevo (guitars/vocals), Andy Williams (drums), Megan Garrett (keys/vocals), and Hector Cervantes (guitars/vocals) — to the label he founded, Beach Street Records. The album is comparable to releases by CCM veteran Steven Curtis Chapman, Caedmon's Call, and Phillips, Craig & Dean. The project, produced by Miller and Chapman, features ten tracks aimed at encouraging and challenging the body of Christ. "If We Are the Body" examines the inner circles within churches that can leave newcomers feeling unwelcome, while "Voice of Truth" speaks of obeying God despite fear. Additional songs include "Who Am I" and "What If His People Prayed."

Casting Crowns

I think this is their best CD. They have so many good songs and they are very praise worthy. If we are the body, your love is extravagant, who am I, Life of praise....this whole CD is excellent. I highly recommend it.

I love this CD!

I remember when I first heard this CD... I was in grade seven or eight in my art class at my school. I immediately wanted to borrow it from from my friend, but had to join the long waiting list. :) This CD is quintessential "Christian" music... it not only has many direct praise and worship songs, but many songs connecting Christianity to modern day life. I LOVE this CD! You guys rock! (Especially Melodee :) Radish :)

This Casting Crowns CD is amazing. The songs are hard hitting and enjoyable. I love the way that they challenge you in their songs. It really made me think. My whole family loves this CD. Their music is great!

One of the most enduring and highly decorated bands in the CCM community, Casting Crowns formed in 1999 as a student worship band in Daytona Beach, Florida. Led by singer, songwriter, and youth pastor Mark Hall, the group's initial lineup also included violinist Melodee DeVevo and a pair of guitarists, Juan DeVevo and Hector Cervantes. The musicians relocated to McDonough, Georgia in 2001 and expanded their lineup by adding bassist Chris Huffman, keyboardist Megan Garrett, and drummer Andy Williams....
