United World Rebellion, Chapter Two: Rise of the Damnation Army - EP

With Johnny Solinger handling the vocal duties, Skid Row have become a new band that’s far more metal than pop. The group’s decision to release EPs in place of albums ensures that fans will have a constant flow of material. Songwriting from bassist Rachel Bolan and guitarist Dave “Snake” Sabo proves that the band’s enduring power lasts long past their former singer. A slow-cooking ballad like “Catch Your Fall” features the kind of melody that made the group one of the most successful pop-metal bands of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. Aggressive guitar play from Sabo and Scott Hill and ambitious tempos from drummer Rob Hammersmith capture the metal edge of “We Are the Damned” and “Damnation Army.” The covers of Queen’s “Sheer Heart Attack” and Aerosmith’s “Rats in the Cellar” pay homage to their ‘70s heroes while also injecting new energy.
