Easily expand your knowledge about urban trees with Branché.
Branché is a location-based app that uses the City of Montreal's tree database. When you walk by a tree in Montreal, Branché automatically shows its species and other related info. More than 200 000 trees are already listed.
Moreover, Branché helps you identify and geolocalize trees that are not currently listed and automatically shares your identification with other users.
Leave your own message on any listed tree and share why it's a special tree, and help report ash trees that are infected by the Emerald Ash Borer.
When you add a tree identification to Branché or report an infected ash, you earn points that can be converted into real trees to plant, thus contributing concretely to the improvement of our urban forest (only in Montreal for now).
IMPORTANT: App only works well for tree detection on devices with GPS hardware.
* Fixed custom form parameters (and photographs) that were not reflected on the map, which could lead to data loss.
* Fixed random crashes on the map.
* Fixed login session loss when network connectivity fluctuates.
* Fixed condition where the message "the request expired" would be displayed.
Ratings and Reviews
There is an error message every few seconds when browsing for trees. There is no obvious way to remove a bookmark. I haven’t seen any diameter or age information for the trees I have been able to review. The user interface is not always well explained (what is the purpose of adding a species to a “project”?). Too bad, it’s a cool concept.
