What's New in Version 4.0.10
- Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements
- Support for iPhone X
Ugly new interface
Need to be able to see more than two stories on the screen tho, try making the pictures and headlines smaller. Look to BBC for inspiration.
I like the app and use it daily, but I am blind and use voiceover on my iPhone and it is pathetic how CBC who has an official accessibility policy on their website has been ignoring the accessibility of this app. I contacted them several times over the last few years and not ever has there been anything in the What’s New which stated that there have been improvements made to VoiceOver accessibility. The interesting thing is that the app is actually fairly accessible with one glaring exception: if I start reading an article with VoiceOver which means VoiceOver starts to read the article allowed and there is any sort of interruption I have to start to listen to it all over again from the beginning. This could mean that if I accidentally touch the screen the focus is changed away from reading, it could mean a notification comes in and interrupts the reading of the article or simply that I have to interrupt the reading manually to do something like answer the front door or talk to somebody. Especially if it is a longer article and I have been sitting there listening for the last two or three minutes then I have to go through all of that again. Furthermore very often in this latest update when voiceover is reading the article it just suddenly stops for no reason at various points of the articles and I hear “screen dimmed” which means that my iPhone screen is about to lock. at that point the reading also stops and again if I want to listen to the whole article I have to start again from the beginning and then touch the screen with two fingers which pause is the reading and then touch it again with two fingers to resume, only this way it will read past this point where it thinks there is no activity and the screen locks. All in all I just find it disappointing that an organization like the CBC which prides itself on its open-mindedness, inclusiveness and standing up for minorities is so ignorant about the needs of the visually impaired to consume the news.
Reporter's Email link seizes app
Just updated this app on Nov 9, 2017, only to discover the app seizes on new opened window after tapping reporter's email link to thank them for writing an article on how the Canadian government blocks and deletes people from the government's social media accounts. (Hope they --government-- have nothing to do with this app development, or whatever word is used to describe the opposite of developing something)
