A great app by itself or also as a pair with iCollect Comic Books for the iPhone/iPod.
We look forward to your feedback.
Completely and utterly disappointing
Years ago I tried to create an excel spreadsheet to catalogue and collect info on my comic book collection. It was a daunting task and I gave up partly through it. When I saw this app I thought to myself "This is great, someone has collected all the info and done all the work for me, I just need to add the titles that I own."
THIS PURCHASE WAS A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY!!!
Upon downloading it I found out that you essentially have to create your list on the icollect website and your app is just a way for you to keep your list on your computer instead of on their website. This wasn't really a problem. What was is the fact that as I began a search for a number of my titles the site has no information for them (no results come up in a search). Many of my independent titles aren't even found on their site (I mean really, the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series was not exactly an uncommon title) nor or smaller, lesser known titles from some of the big studios (Marvel, DC).
Then I find that even the ones that they have in their database can be very scant on their information. The page that they developed for each comic has information sections that include things like artists, writers, characters, etc. These are not always complete (at times woefully incomplete) and you cannot edit this information yourself (which would defeat the purchase of this app in the first place since this is why I bought it - to avoid having to fill in all of this info myself).
Lastly, when I sent an email to their support to ask about if there are ways to add missing titles I received an email stating that they are very busy and will get back to me as soon as possible. It has been 2 weeks and I still have not heard anything back from them. This is not the kind of support that I was hoping for.
I know you can't always be certain that you are going to get a great product, but when you are paying $15 for an app (which you almost really don't need to buy if you just want to set up your list online), you should get something that does at least an adequate job. This one is far from that. I realize that there are millions of titles out there and that to get all of this information would take a significant amount of time but then that should be stated somewhere in the product description (* All titles may not be included or have complete information - please see our website to try our product first).
I am only sorry that I cannot give this product a zero star rating.
I have the iphone version of this app and love it and bought this app hoping it would make a great extension and database. Right now version 1.0 is not. I gave it 3 stars though hoping that future versions will add functionality that is important to make this a good app. i.e. the ability to edit details about each book, the ability to add new books by plugging in the iphone to use as a scanner, etc.
Would I recommend it to other people? Not yet.
