Too much cropped

I played the game on the Xbox One. I really loved it, and was excited when I discovered it was ported to iOS. However, there was a lot of complaints about the controls with the reviews, and after playing it for a bit, I can see why. The main issue I’m having so far is the crop. Compared to the original version I played on Xbox, the iOS version has areas cropped to a point that the opening credits at the beginning of the game are cropped out, not allowing you to properly see them. And it’s like that with a lot of things. The areas are sometimes so cropped, you can’t see key things you’re suppose to see, or you might actually walk out of the field of view, and have no idea where you went, because your character is outside the crop. It really hurts the games, because it’s a dark game already. Cropping the field of view outside the level’s original intent just makes it harder to navigate. And the touch controls can be hit or miss. Thankfully they fixed that part with a virtual stick, but the crop is still an issue, making the experience less enjoyable compared to the console/PC version.

4*s for the theory but....in praxis? see below

Edit: Yes, it is as I hoped. I just got a response within 12 hours and they have apologized for the inconvenience and explained how to get a refund. What amazing customer service! 5 stars for the service. HOWEVER, they updated it now and, while this is a step in the right direction, it should be noted that this game is virtually unplayable on older models. I have iPad 2 retina. Takes 5 minutes to move across the screen. No joke. I have faith though so I'll wait a few more updates before claiming a refund.

Older review: It crashes every time but I'm sure they'll be responsive to my email. They have a 5 at present but this may change. Stay tuned.

Bad controls

The atmosphere and music is cool, but the controls are impossible. You can’t just tap on objects to investigate, you have to tap next to it, wait for your character to be in position, and then once the object is highlighted you can search the item. This is really annoying, especially since the character won’t always face the object, so you have to keep taping - and sometimes you go to press the search icon, but miss so you end up sending the character back across the room. It shouldn’t be this difficult!

Also, it’s really hard to make out anything on an iPhone. Once learning this was a port from a console, I started to understand why it was so awkward. Unless the designers do some major updates, I would caution anyone not to buy this.
